The Effingham County Sheriff's Office takes an active approach to humanely enforce County Ordinances and State Laws as they pertain to domestic animals and the public's health, safety and welfare.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Office Humane Enforcement Deputies are Effingham Counties first Nationally Certified Animal Control Officers.
The Effingham County Humane Enforcement Deputies respond to animal issues county-wide. Deputies respond to all calls involving domestic animals and wildlife.
Humane Enforcement Deputies respond to weekend calls on an emergency basis only.
The Humane Enforcement Division
On November 30, 2009, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office assumed operations of the county's Animal Control Unit.
Since that time, we have renamed "Animal Control" to the "Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Humane Enforcement Division." This change to a new name instills a sense of new commitment to the citizens of Effingham County. See our brochure (PDF) for additional information.
Humane live traps are only available for loan from the Effingham County Sheriff's Office to businesses, the elderly and the handicap at no charge. The Effingham County Animal Shelter offers humane live traps to the general public.
